Normally we associate May Day with dancing around May Poles and military parades in Red Square in celebration of Workers. Sadly this year our worker colleagues across the world are thwarted by a fearsome virus.
Our suppliers in Swaziland ,who are members of the SWIFT Fair Trade producer group, are particularly badly affected. Normally 60% of their trade comes from tourism (presently nil) and the balance from exports and their own retail shops currently under lockdown. So, sadly trade is turning to aid temporarily to keep households sustained.
Danaqa is trying to help in the UK by setting up a Just Giving page in support of SWIFT (at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/swift-glenn-hutchinson) and donating all of our retail sales revenue through Danaqa.com in May 2020 to support SWIFT members through food aid. In addition we will be lobbying all and sundry to raise awareness of the issue here and try to keep the wheels on the bus.
Kindly note our Tewkesbury retail outlet at the Malt House Emporium at Ashchurch near the M5 junction is currently locked down. We hope this will be back to normal soon.
Please do not hesitate to contact us, let’s keep SWIFT rolling.
